Initiatives implemented
by this Vigneron en Développement Durable :

Where are we?

Founded in 1933 by Louis Gambert de Loche at the foot of the Hermitage hillside, Cave de Tain is owner of the vineyards, particularly 21 hectares in Hermitage.

Its 1,000 hectares of meticulously maintained vineyards, including 5 prestigious appellations (Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Cornas and Saint-Péray), make it the leading producer of “cru” wines in the northern Rhône Valley.

Founding member of the "R&D Syrah" Association and the Syrah & Marsanne Conservatory, it is also the most important "Appellation" Syrah producer in Europe.

Our goal: To make the best Syrah in the world!

Who are we?

Today, the company has over 300 grower-members and 55 employees, with the same philosophy they've embraced since 1933: EXCEL IN WHATEVER WE DO.

Cave de Tain is committed to a quality management system (traceability and GPS mapping) which ensures that the strictest possible food safety standards and wine tracing methods are respected.  It is the first operator in the region to have obtained ISO 9001, IFS and BRC accreditation.

In 2007, Cave de Tain formalized its commitment to sustainable development by adopting the Vignerons en Développement Durable approach: a unifying project for all of the company's players, who have embraced it with sincerity and enthusiasm. Complying with the requirements of the association's guidelines since 2009, Cave de Tain proudly presents the trademark's colors on its products and communication materials, particularly its Internet site:

What do we produce?

Fine affordable wines.

Today, 100 % of the wines produced by Cave de Tain meet the requirements of the Vignerons en Développement Durable collective trademark.

Cave de Tain - vignesThis approach was taken a step further:

  • In 2011, the first Crozes Hermitage red wine cuvée made from organic grapes was produced.
  • Organic Saint-Joseph, Cornas and Hermitage Red wines are expected for the 2012 vintage.

85 % of the Cave de Tain vines are of Protected Appellation of Origin (AOC) and the fine red and white wines that it produces are divided into three different categories:

  • Varietal wines: first step towards our noble grape varieties from the Rhone Valley and our particular terroir.
Protected geographical indication (IGP) Collines Rhodaniennes - Syrah for the reds/rosés and Marsanne for the whites.
  • The Great Classics: the heart of the "Cave de Tain l’Hermitage" expertise.
Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Cornas and Saint-Péray are made according to long-standing Rhone Valley traditions, and faithfully respect each appellation's specific "terroir".
  • Plot Selection Wines:  wines for connoisseurs that express the very best of each appellation.
The ten plot selection wines come from exceptional terroirs, which are cultivated with the greatest care.
