Opponents of “Agriculture Raisonnée” admit that this concept may enable farmers to become more aware of the environment, but reproach the fact that it does not go far enough in terms of prohibitions or limitations (the practices required by sustainable farming mean that the quantities of products used have to be optimized, but there is no national maximum standard).
Currently in France, only two environmental approaches to agriculture have been validated by the government: organic farming and “Agriculture Raisonnée” (a form of sustainable farming). Following the decision by the Grenelle Environmental Forum, a new type of environmental certification, HVE farming (high environmental value) is currently being developed by the Ministries of Agriculture and the Environment.
